Courtesy of Class-1.com Having elected to sit-out the first race of the season, Domenico Cirilli and Sergio Mora Carrasco have not been idle whilst the Class 1 fleet has been in Doha and have been getting in some valuable time together on the water, taking to the seas off Huelva in a Class 3 catamaran. The new all-Spanish partnership is set to make their debut at the Montenegrin Grand Prix in Budva in May in the race boat Cirilli throttled last season.

Courtesy of Class-1.com Reigning Class 1 World Powerboat Champion Arif Saif Al Zafeen made the perfect start to the defence of his title, winning the Qatar Grand Prix, the opening round of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, in an emphatic manner.

Qatar 96 crashes in qual session

Courtesy of Class-1.com Sheikh Hassan Bin Jabor Al-Thani and Steve Curtis escaped unhurt from a spectacular high-speed crash during today's official qualifying session for Saturday's Qatar Grand Prix, round 1 of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship. The crash, which destroyed their raceboat, happened halfway through the session with Sheikh Hassan and Curtis' on the final turn on their second run and pushing to try to regain the provisional pole from main rivals Victory 1.

BBC enter round Britain Race

The BBC are entering a boat for the 2008 Round Britain race. The team will consist of Iain May (BBC Top Gear Camera Man), James May (BBC Top Gear Presenter) and Nick Knowles (BBC DIY SOS Presenter). The trio will be racing in the RB2 Class and have named themselves The Two Scoops Racing Team. Presumably their exploits will be broadcast on the BBC later this year possibly on Top Gear.
